The short answer first, so you don't have to dig through the whole article. TOP 5 shows you the core: your five strongest talents. Full 34 shows you the complete ranking from 1 to 34, including what drains your energy and what you instinctively avoid. For a first introduction to yourself, TOP 5 is enough. For leading people, career decisions, and longer work with a coach, Full 34 is worth it.

Now the rest, because "enough" and "worth it" are two different things, and it helps to know what you're getting into.

What is TOP 5

TOP 5 is the entry report. You take an online assessment on your Gallup profile, and at the end you get your five strongest talents, ranked from number one. That's your core. Patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that you use so automatically you often don't even notice them. Its biggest advantage? It's cheaper.

What you get from TOP 5:

  • Five dominant talents and their order.
  • A description of how each talent shows up in your everyday functioning.
  • A quick orientation in why the things others struggle with come easily to you.

TOP 5 is cheaper and faster. It's the ideal first touch when the topic of strengths interests you and you want to get a feel for what it's all about. Most people are surprised at the very first talent. "That's exactly what I do, and I thought everyone did it." They don't.

Just to be clear. The fact that the ranking stops at five doesn't mean your sixth talent is weak. It only means you can't see it in TOP 5.

What is Full 34

Full 34 shows you the complete ranking of all 34 talents. According to Gallup, everyone has these 34 talents spread across 4 domains. The difference isn't in which talents you have. The difference is in what order.

Full 34 splits your talents into roughly three tiers:

  • The top (1 to 10): what drives you. Invest your time and energy here; this is where you grow fastest.
  • The middle (11 to 24): talents on demand. You can switch them on when needed, but they're not your first choices.
  • The bottom (25 to 34): what costs you the most energy. Not because you're bad at it. Because it's not your natural wiring.

It's the bottom of the report that surprises people most. And it's often the most useful part of the whole document.

Why the bottom of the report matters

Here's the most common misconception. People think the bottom of the report is their weaknesses. It isn't. The bottom isn't personality weaknesses, it's non-priorities.

The difference is fundamental. A weakness is something you'd fix. A non-priority is something you stop wrestling with and start smartly working around. When you know what's at the tail end, you know a lot of practical things:

  • Where to delegate. A task that lands on your 33rd talent will eat up half your day. A colleague who has it in their TOP 5 will finish it in an hour and enjoy it.
  • What to avoid. You stop signing up for roles that drain you over time, even if you "can" do them.
  • Where to watch your back. You know your blind spots before they get you. When you lead people, that's priceless.

Without the full ranking, you're working with half a map. You see where you can drive fast, but you can't see where the potholes are.

When TOP 5 is enough

Let's be fair. Not everyone needs the full version right away. TOP 5 is plenty when:

  • You're at this topic for the first time and want to get your bearings.
  • You're driven by curiosity. You want to know what fits you, and you're not planning to build a career strategy just yet.
  • You need a quick insight into yourself or a colleague you'd like to work better with.
  • You want to get a feel for the method before you put more into it.

TOP 5 is an honest start. Plenty of people stay with it for a while, live with it, and only then realize they want to see the rest. That's completely fine. You don't have to decide everything at once.

When Full 34 is worth it

There are situations where TOP 5 simply isn't enough and Full 34 pays for itself many times over. Reach for the full version when:

  • You lead people. You want to understand when you're running naturally and when you're running on reserves. And you want to be able to read the team, not just yourself.
  • You're facing a career decision. You're about to change roles, fields, or direction. The full ranking tells you where you're being pulled and what will hold you back in a new role.
  • You're building a team. You want to divide roles based on who fits what, not on who happened to be free.
  • You work with a coach over the long term. Deeper work needs the whole map, not just its tip.

The numbers back this up. According to Gallup, people who get to do what they're good at every day are up to six times more engaged at work. And simply knowing your strengths raises performance by roughly 7.8%. Those aren't crumbs. That's the difference between a year of struggling and a year where things click.

One more thing to put your mind at ease. Your TOP 5 is rarer than you'd expect. The odds of meeting someone with the same first five in the same order are about 1 in 33,000,000. Add the full ranking of 34 talents, and you yourself are one of a kind. Full 34 shows you that originality in full.

Upgrade: from TOP 5 to Full 34 without a new assessment

The best news last. If you already have TOP 5, you don't have to take the assessment again. You filled it out once, and Gallup knows your answers for all 34 talents. TOP 5 is just a slice. Expanding to the full ranking is therefore a simple upgrade, not a new measurement.

In practice, that means you go from the core to the full map in a moment, without repeating the questionnaire. We've written up exactly how it works and what all it unlocks on the Upgrade service page. If you want to work with your results deeply and consistently, take a look at long-term guidance.

Frequently asked questions

**Is Full 34 better than TOP 5?**It's not better, it's more complete. TOP 5 gives you the core, Full 34 the whole picture. For a first introduction, TOP 5 is the right choice. The moment you want to make career decisions or lead people, you outgrow TOP 5, and the full version gives you what the smaller report can't.

**If I buy TOP 5, will I lose money when I expand later?**No. TOP 5 and Full 34 are both built on the same completed assessment. For the upgrade you only pay the difference, and you don't take a new assessment. So feel free to start with the smaller version.

**Does the bottom of Full 34 mean I'm bad at something?**No. The bottom is non-priorities, not weaknesses. These are areas that cost you the most energy. The smartest move isn't to fix them, but to delegate or work around them and give your time to what's at the top.

**How long does the assessment itself take?**The online questionnaire on your Gallup profile takes about half an hour. You answer quickly and instinctively, which is by design. You get the results right away. The difference between TOP 5 and Full 34 isn't in the length of the assessment, but in how much of the result you see.

**Who is Full 34 pointless for?**It's not pointless for anyone, but not everyone needs it right away. If you're driven only by curiosity and don't plan to keep working with the results, TOP 5 will serve you well. Full 34 makes the most sense once you want to decide, lead, or grow over the long term.

Where to go next

TOP 5 is a good start. Full 34 is a decision-making tool. Most people go through both, in that order. There's no need to rush, but it's fair to know that the core is just the beginning of the map.
