What Gallup Q12 is
Q12 is a 12-question survey that Gallup developed based on decades of engagement research with more than 35 million employees across hundreds of companies. The 12 questions measure precisely the factors that statistically best predict a team's productivity, loyalty and performance.
It's not an anonymous satisfaction questionnaire where everyone writes what they think you want to hear. It's a scientifically validated tool with norms for benchmarking against the market.
The manager is the strongest variable
Gallup data show again and again that the manager accounts for 70 % of the variance in a team's engagement. More than pay. More than benefits. More than company culture.
A manager who knows their team's talents and assigns tasks according to natural strength automatically creates the conditions for engagement. A manager who doesn't fights turnover and performance problems no matter how big the bonuses are.
The 12 Q12 questions ask about things like:
- →I know what is expected of me at work.
- →I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work properly.
- →At work, I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day.
- →It seems that my supervisor or a colleague cares about whether I'm happy at work as a person.
- →In the last six months, I've talked to someone about my development.
Sample questions. The full survey has 12 items.
What the survey reveals and what to do with the results
What you get
- →Your team's engagement score in each of the 12 dimensions
- →Comparison against the Gallup normative database
- →Identification of the strongest and weakest areas
- →Recommendations for concrete steps to improve
What to do with the results
The survey on its own changes nothing. Change happens when managers start working with the results concretely. We offer follow-up coaching for management and development programs focused on the areas with the lowest scores.
Connecting Q12 with CliftonStrengths has a powerful effect. You know where engagement is low, and you have the tools to raise it through working with talents.
Practicality, clarity, a shared language for the team, and an impact on both individuals and company culture. A long-term investment that pays off.
